Learning objectives: Primary Thyroid Lymphoma is a rare entity, accounting for 2-5% of malignant thyroid neoplasms and less than 1% of all lymphomas. It usually appears in previous pathological conditions, autoimmune thyroiditis preferably, such as chronic thyroiditis, i.e. Hashimoto's disease; being more comm[...]

Background: In the present study we will review primary thyroid lymphoma and will focus on ultrasound findings.

Findings and procedure details: Primary thyroid lymphoma is a multidisciplinary diagnostic challenge, given its low incidence and the absence of characteristic clinical findings. Ultrasonography with high-frequency linear transducers (7'5-15 MHz) is the imaging modality of choice for the initiation of the study of the thyro[...]

Conclusion: Radiologists should be familiar with sonographic findings of primary thyroid lymphoma in order to include it in the differential diagnosis of suspected malignant disease of the thyroid gland, and therefore establish the correct diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines.
