Purpose: Thyroid lesions are common radiological findings in both asymptomatic and symptomatic patients and evaluation of these lesions remains a diagnostic challenge. The main concern for managing thyroid nodules is to exclude malignant lesions, which usually account for 4-6% of all thyroid lesions[1]. Clin[...]

Methods and materials: This was a prospective diagnostic study on 88 thyroid lesions in 86 patients in Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences after obtaining Institutional and ethical committee clearance. Shear wave velocity (SWV) values were obtained by using Virtual Touch Tissue Quantification (VTTQ) parameter by ARF[...]

Results: Table 1 : Mean, standard deviation and range of SWV values of benign and malignant lesions. (N=88)   The mean SWV values of benign and malignant thyroid lesions were 2.17 ± 0.84 m/s (Range : 0.76 - 6.55 m/s) and 6.17 ± 2.72 m/s ( Range : 1.04 - 9.00 m/s) respectively.       Table[...]

Conclusion: Papillary carcinoma was the most commonly encountered malignant lesion in this study (60%), in 9 out of 15 malignant lesions. The optimal cut-off point for SWV values in differentiating between benign and malignant thyroid lesions was 2.87 m/s. The mean SWVs of benign and malignant thyroid lesions w[...]
