Purpose: Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is characterized by abnormal pancreatic morphology and impaired endocrine and exocrine function. Little is known about the relationship between pancreatic morphology and function in CP, and also its association to the clinical manifestations of CP Hence, the aim was to expl[...]

Methods and materials: 82 CP patients and 22 healthy controls (HC) were included. Fig. 2 Morphological imaging parameters included pancreatic main duct diameter, gland volume, Dixon fat signal fraction, and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. Fig. 3 Functional imaging parameters included quantitative bowel fluid [...]

Results: All imaging parameters differentiated CP patients from HC. Fig. 4 Fecal elastase was positively correlated to pancreatic gland volume (r= 0.68, P=0.0016) and negatively correlated to Cambridge classification (r =-0.35, P<0.001). Gland volume was negatively correlated to the CP duration (r=-0.39, [...]

Conclusion: Secretin-stimulated MRI provides detailed information about pancreatic morphology and function. Advanced pancreatic MRI represents a promising non-invasive imaging method for characterizing pancreatic pathophysiology and may enable prognostication and monitoring of disease progression in patien[...]
