Aims and objectives: To demonstrate the role that FDG PET-CT can play in screening of different sites for local and distant metastasis from primary renal cell carcinoma and enhance its advantages over other imaging modalities.

Methods and materials: 20 patients presented for post nephrectomy screening (post management of RCC) .Positive results were interpreted whenever a focal area of FDG uptake more than the surrounding tissue uptake which is noted in abdominal cavity or outside the abdomen. Results: In current study, there were different sites of distant metastasis of renal cell carcinoma that distributed as follow lung is the commonest (8 patients = 40%), second is bone (7 patients =35%), third is distant L.N (6 patients=30%), fourth is the liver (4 patient=20%) then adrenal gland (4patients=2[...]

Conclusion: Nuclear medicine studies, mainly considering FDG-PET, are not the optimum imaging tool for evaluating RCC metastasis and main limitation is inability for adequate characterization of small metastatic lesions.
