Learning objectives: The purpose of this educational exhibit is to highlight the role of postvoid contrast-enhanced MR imaging in the differential diagnosis of female urethral diverticulum.

Background: Female urethral diverticulum is an uncommon pathologic entity and many different imaging techniques can be used to confirm the diagnosis, such as urethrography, ultrasound and CT. Although conventiona radiography techniques and CT voiding urethrography represent an established tool in the evaluation[...]

Findings and procedure details: Morphological T2-weighted sequences, with (Figure 2) or without fat saturation (Figure 1), are able to depict cystic lesions and the administration of contrast medium allows to differentiate solid lesions, which are characterized by contrast enhancement, and cystic lesions.  In addition to the [...]

Conclusion: Postvoid MR imaging acquisitions can play a role in the differential diagnosis of female urethral diverticulum, allowing a precise evaluation of the extent and the location of diverticulum and confirming the presence of a pervious communication with the urethra.
